To find horror, one needs only to look in humanity's past. To write horror, a writer need only to change the names of those who declare innocence. Who of us are innocent: those who write it as insulation against it; those who read it as diversion from it; or those who live it to keep it close. The horrors of our future began in our past, and we need not look too great a distance before we must close our eyes tight.
